Downtown Boise Holiday Tree Lighting

Kick off the holiday season in Downtown Boise with the annual lighting of the Downtown Boise Holiday Tree! Adorned with more than 5,000 lights and a custom-made tree topper, the 45-foot tree is Boise Cascade’s gift to our downtown and lights up the Grove Plaza throughout the season.

Join your neighbors at this free all-ages event complete with a candle lighting ceremony, live holiday music by local band Payette, special guests, and the official countdown and lighting of the Holiday Tree!

This event also marks the official launch of the Giving Tree Program! Learn more by visiting our friends from the Women’s and Children’s Alliance at the Holiday Tree Lighting Event.

New this year is the grand opening of the new Holidays on the Grove vendor market! Visit the vendor sheds on the Grove Plaza during the Holiday Tree Lighting, and throughout December.

The Holiday Tree Lighting event is made possible by our amazing volunteer teams who hand out candles, monitor for fire safety, and share event information with guests. Thank you, volunteers!

About The Tree

The 2025 Holiday Tree is a 46' Blue Spruce weighing roughly 8500lbs! The tree was donated by Stephen Brocksom and family of Southeast Boise. It was growing too closely to another tree and needed to be removed. The Brocksoms thought it would make a great Holiday Tree for Downtown Boise and graciously ofted to gift it to the City. What Happens to the Holiday Tree after the Holidays?

The tree is chipped up and removed from the Grove Plaza in the New Year. Wood chips from the Holiday Tree are turned into mulch at the Boise Community Forestry shop and this mulch is sold to the public. The mulch is great for garden beds or tree rings! Mulch is helpful because it adds organic matter to the soil over time and helps retain moisture in the soil. The larger wood from the Holiday Tree will be saved for either firewood or wood working.
