Christmas in the City takes place throughout downtown Boise starting with the Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration on the Friday following Thanksgiving and continuing with events through Christmas. It is a magical time in the urban heart of our city, a time of celebration, giving and community. The Holiday Parade is a Boise tradition and a source of pride for our community. Bring the family to this year’s parade to celebrate “A Storybook Christmas” with Grand Marshal Leslie Patricelli.
The mission of the U. S. Marine Corps Reserve Toys for Tots Program is to collect new, unwrapped toys during October, November and December each year, and distribute those toys as Christmas gifts to less fortunate children in our community. The primary goal of Toys for Tots is to deliver, through a new toy at Christmas, a message of hope to less fortunate youngsters that will assist them in becoming responsible, productive, patriotic citizens.

This admission-free event will serve as an upscale and inventive indie art/craft show during the holidays. The Market will consist of innovative and original items produced using traditional art/craft methods. Throughout the year the Idaho Foodbank collects handcrafted and hand painted bowls from professional and amateur artisans, students, and studios. The event offers participants the opportunity to select a unique bowl from thousands and then enjoy a hot bowl of soup generously donated by several of our finest local restaurants. While guests enjoy their meal, they are encouraged to remember that not all our Idaho neighbors are able to meet the basic need of feeding their families, so financial support from the event helps to provide free emergency food to those in need.

Boise Mayor Bieter lights up the Christmas tree on The Grove Plaza in downtown Boise, while families in attendance sing carols and join in the candle lighting ceremony. This is also the kick off of our annual Giving Tree program, in which gift tags are hung around the tree that list the WCA’s facility and child care needs. Community members can take tags from the tree and drop the items off at any Zion’s Bank location. Can’t wait to see you there to ring in the holiday season!
