The American Institute of Architects along with special guest Boise Mayor McLean will host
“Making Boise More Livable” free to the public on Monday April 6th at 7:00 pm at the Egyptian Theatre, Downtown Boise. Doors open at 6pm

The Central Idaho Chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Mayor are teaming up for an event this April – Architecture Month.

Architecture Month celebrates the buildings and spaces that shape our city, the creative minds who bring them to life, and the stories that inform our community.

Each April, design professionals and architecture enthusiasts alike participate in special events
throughout the nation to celebrate the accomplishments of architecture, design, and urbanism. This celebration puts a spotlight on quality urban design and on what makes our communities better places to live, work and play.

This April, the American Institute of Architects Central Idaho Chapter will share two short feature films with residents of the City of Boise.

4 Ways to Make a City More Walkable (19 minutes) – Freedom from cars, freedom from
sprawl, freedom to walk your city! City planner Jeff Speck shares his “general theory of
walkability” — four planning principles to transform sprawling cities of six-lane highways and
600-foot blocks into safe, walkable oases full of bike lanes and tree-lined streets.

7 Principles for Building Better Cities (15 minutes) – More than half of the world’s
population already lives in cities, and another 2.5 billion people are projected to move to urban
areas by 2050. The way we build new cities will be at the heart of so much that matters, from
climate change to economic vitality to our very well-being and sense of connectedness. Peter
Calthorpe is already at work planning the cities of the future and advocating for community
design that’s focused on human interaction. He shares seven universal principles for solving
sprawl and building smarter, more sustainable cities.

This event will be held at the Egyptian Theatre, will be open to the public and will be free of charge.
Boise Mayor McLean will share opening remarks prior to the viewing of the feature films.

The American Institute of Architects will lead a discussion with members of the audience after these thought-provoking films are shown.
