The Gene Harris Jazz festival is all about supporting aspiring jazz musicians in our community. The event seeks to enrich jazz music education in the Treasure Valley (and the state of Idaho) by connecting local students with world-class performing artists — right in their own backyard. Historically, this festival brings more than 1,500 Idaho students to Boise State’s campus to work with professional musicians. We only expect that number to grow this year.
This year’s festival theme is the Big-Band era. Expect to see multiple Big-Bands, as well as the elite “Super Band” consisting of professional jazz artists and educators from around the country. This will be the finale event after the Boise Jazz Society hosts Wynton Marsalis and Jazz at Lincoln Center in February at the Morrison Center.
The COVID-19 pandemic has hit the arts community hard. If you’re in a position to support our community’s local music scene (and the artists that make GHJF possible), your donation(s) will go directly to Boise State’s Department of Music. Contributions will help us continue to build the Gene Harris Endowment Fund in support of comprehensive music education at Boise State University.
