Creating and Conserving the Constitution: Idaho’s Constitution Revealed
March 20 at the Idaho State Museum
6:00-8:00 PM (doors open at 5:30)

Join the Idaho State Historical Society and Idaho Public Television for a film screening and panel discussion chronicling the history of Idaho’s Constitution and the recently completed conservation work that will preserve the document for generations to come. “Idaho’s Constitution Revealed” follows the four-month restoration process in Utah; the conservators who performed the repairs; and the Idaho State Historical Society staff who care for the constitution. The documentary also traces the history of the constitution from its drafting in 1889 to the teachers, lawyers, and lawmakers who study it, interpret it and even try to amend it today. This 130-year-old drama has a rich cast, including villains, heroes and overlooked characters whose roles have been untold or unappreciated.

Idaho Experience Producer Bill Manny and Idaho State Archives Collections Archivist Layce Johnson will highlight sections of the film as part of a real-time discussion that will give in-depth insight to this historic project. Chief Justice of the Idaho Supreme Court Roger Burdick will be a part of a panel that can speak to the document’s importance and how it continues to impact our lives today.

An exhibit featuring a replica of the Idaho State Constitution will be on display for the evening.

This event is free and open to the public, however, seating is limited so registration is required.
