Holidays in the City

Presented by T-Mobile

Celebrate the season with Downtown Boise’s Holidays in the City events and promotions - beginning the Friday after Thanksgiving and going through the end of December. The Holidays in the City campaign encompasses Small Business Weekend, Winter Windows, City Santa, the Holiday Tree that supports Women’s and Children’s Alliance (WCA), and December First Thursday.

We have planned a holiday season full of engaging, safe, and family-friendly activities that celebrate all that Downtown Boise has to offer. Bundle the family up and come downtown to see decorated window displays and vote for your favorites. Start or continue a tradition of pulling a tag off of the Holiday Tree to help support the WCA; or maybe browse local merchants – in-store or online - to find a unique gift for that special someone.

Read more about what’s happening below and make a plan to support Downtown Boise merchants and businesses. We can’t wait to see you!

Friday, November 27 through December 2020; The Grove Plaza

A beautiful holiday tree will be placed in The Grove Plaza, it will be lit, and will be the City’s tree, as usual. However, we can’t in good faith or according to state guidelines, have thousands of people gathered on The Grove Plaza on the Friday after Thanksgiving for a tree lighting ceremony this year. Instead, make a night of it in Downtown by stopping by to see the tree, pulling a gift tag in support of the WCA, and get in on Shop Small Weekend and Winter Windows - both kicking off that night! Downtown Boise is the place to kick off your holiday celebration!

Friday, November 27 to Sunday, November 29; Downtown Boise

We’ve taken the national shop small movement and stretched it out into a full weekend! When you support a Downtown business over the course of Thanksgiving weekend, keep track and fill out Small Business Weekend Shopping Passport. Shoppers can print a passport at home (link coming soon), pick one up at Rediscovered Bookshop between November 27th – 29th, or keep track of online shopping to create a virtual one. Store merchants will stamp or sign physical passports as you visit their shops. Completed passports will be entered to win one of three $100 Downtown Boise Gift Cards!

Friday, November 27 through December 2020; Downtown Boise

Make Downtown a destination this holiday season to see the magic of the season embodied in the window displays of your favorite merchants and businesses. Bundle up, grab a warm beverage, and enjoy the holiday decor as you make your way through the welcoming streets of Downtown Boise. The windows will “officially” be lit on Friday, November 27th, and many businesses will be open late as they unveil their windows. Boise City Mayor McLean will be doing a live social media event from Downtown that night, and you will be able to vote for your favorite window displays while you’re there. Look for a QR code displayed in the front of the store to vote!  #LightUpDowntownBoise

First 3 Saturday's in December

The cherished tradition of visiting Santa at D.L. Evans Bank in Downtown Boise will be happening in a different way this year - virtually instead of in person. To protect the health of Santa, his elves, and his young visitors, families can sign up for a time slot to visit with Santa on Zoom. Starting with a community sing along on December 5th, Santa will be available for Zoom visits on the first three Saturdays in December. Visits are free, with a suggested donation to the Women’s and Children’s Alliance. Click into the event page for registration details beginning November 16th.
