Capitol Contemporary Gallery is excited to present two new exhibitions this October, Improvisations by Geoffrey Krueger and Second Sight by Sue Latta. Krueger will be showing a collection of improvised abstract paintings, while Sue will be exhibiting conceptual works, checking in with her intuition and presenting the work in a way that transcends the surface.

Second Sight

I pay attention. I watch, I listen, I read, I collect ideas, and meaning. And sometimes when you are a person that pays attention the outside world just gets to be too much, too scary...I'm there now. So, for this show I decided to turn my attention inward, to ask myself questions, to check in with my intuition, to learn new things...and to play. The title Second Sight is my nod to seeing things in a new way, looking past the surface, past the ordinary, into the version of the story that only the mind’s eye can see.

Improvisations

It's always surprising when an idea finally comes together. The most difficult part of my practice is getting my ideas to materialize into actual paintings. For this show I've relied on improvisation to guide me. Some of these paintings appeared quite quickly while others were a slow process of painting and looking for long periods until something finally occurred to me and I had the courage to obliterate a favorite mark for the good of the entire piece. Each of these paintings are an amalgam of improvised mark making. These are all my favorite marks.
