Join us Saturday, July 16th at 7PM for an artist talk with resident artist Laurita Siles!
MING Studios welcomes artist and researcher Laurita Siles from Karrantza, Biscay. Siles shows concern for the land, from the environmental crisis to the nostalgia provoked by the loss of heritage. She is co-founder of the project Mutur Beltz, an agro-ecological initiative that raises awareness of the Basque black-nosed sheep, or Karrantzako Mutur Beltz, and the diminishing shepherd trade.
Siles will speak about her current work at MING Studios, her previous work and academic thesis on ‘the use of folklore in artistic practice’. She will introduce her project Mutur Beltz -its development, mission and significance to the rural area of Karrantza.
