“A Tribute to Trees” by Margaret Donat—June Featured Artist at Art Source Gallery
Kiln-formed glass artist Margaret Donat shares her fascination with trees—their lively way of conversing, dancing, holding each other up—and their constant change. Weather, light, and seasons all bring new visual surprises, she says, adding, “I especially like deciduous trees in winter when they expose their underlying structure, allowing me an intimate look at ‘bones’ beneath the foliage. I began this show in winter and finished in the spring when the trees were budding and coming to life.”
Donat builds on her experience with watercolor—she creates an underpainting on glass, then adds layers of relief, firing one at a time and adjusting the heat for different effects. Like the trees she loves, her work is constantly changing. The exhibition will be on display throughout the month of June.

Art Source Gallery is a collaborative of nearly 50 artists in all media, located at 1516 W. Grove St. in Boise’s Linen District.
